if your having a hard time priming it just take a powerhead or waterhose to the intake

cypher that is really helpful. That should def become a sticky. I have classes till late tonight so I will give it another shot tomorrow. I ordered my pump today, but I still wanted to make sure the overflow worked.

Well that is very clearly explained.

However taking the thing out and jamming a hose in one end accomplishes the same feat.

You still have to syphon air out though if you fill it up with a hose, don't you?

Yes,air could still be trapped at the top.
Just draw(suck) on the check valve till you get water, then its primed.
