Private Text Becomes Public Text (Internet Horror Stories)
My then boyfriend and I were spending the holidays with his family. We had been trading racy texts the entire evening when we had a chance and we were having a good bit of fun with it when the texts suddenly stopped.
I thought nothing of it and neither did he until we got in the car together to head back to my place. As soon as we drove off, he looked at me sullenly, with puppy dog eyes, and said "You stopped responding!"
I looked at him confused, "No, babe, you stopped responding," I said getting more and more alarmed. Did I send it to the wrong person? Did he send one to the wrong person? I pulled over quickly into a parking lot and checked my phone. I explained that my last text message had most certainly gone through and read it aloud. He checked his phone quickly and suddenly his face washed with embarrassment. "Umm," he stammered, "We need to go back to your place, now!"
He explained as I drove frantically that he had accidentally sent the text message intended to me to his Facebook as a status update. We shared mutual friends and had been dating for several months, so everyone knew exactly who the very x-rated text was intended for. I cursed him, his phone and his lack of internet on his phone the entire 30 minute drive back to my place.
He logged on quickly and deleted the status update, but the damage had been done. It had been 4 hours by the time we figured out what happened and there was a 15 comment thread discussing the post before it was deleted. We were both mortified.
