I have experienced with 2 motoro rays. I am planning to get a P13 black ray, but i don't know either to choose from a 9" wild caught or 6" captive breed. male or famale???

can anyone give me some suggestion??

Thanks

Read the issues on this board with WC. Go captive bred. They are nicer in my opinion and don't come with hooks, bacteria and disease of wc.

In my opinion, a F2 is best.
(aka second gen. in captivity)

You get the added benefits listed above as well as the fact that they were not born in the wild so it is less cruel keeping them in captivity
(they are not used to swimming all around the amazon)

The fact that it is an f2 means hat the genes will be raw and ready to go in a captive breeding pool. (fyi I am very picky about which rays I am going to breed, no inbreeding, no interbreeding, nice, strong genetics. Just looking to the future ^^)

I would not disclude a wild caught specimen, but depending on your experience a wild caught ray might be a better and easier choice.

I agree that CB is the way to go, but if I were in you position. I would prefer to buy a ray that is much bigger at this time, CB or not.

There is nothing wrong with WC rays. As long as they are quarantined right and healthy. You should need to worry about anything else.

i heard that the female grows faster and endup bigger than male, is that true.
Also, how long and how difficult is it to train a WC 9" P13 to eat sinking pellets?

thank you for all the suggestion so far

deff go CB. with all the money your gonna spend on a black ray, u should deff spend the extra buck on CB. do u rely want to take the chance on loosing a $1200 fish?

when trying other foods, it depends on the ray. it could go either way...

usually this is true.... but alot of recent bacteria infections were all in CB rays... large debate over what is better.... but if its from a good breeder i would take the CB ray...

hmm, with the wild caught P13 9" is first export from brazil to Montreal canada, then settle in fish store for 7 days, the fish store make sure the fish eat before he ship it to toronto.
the CB 6" is already at toronto for over a month, eats MP worm and sinking pellet.

WC is $400 cheaper than the CB.

so, what do you guys think, which one to choose.
