probably dumb questions, but I'll ask anyway...

so getting him to go into the big tank with my other cats is a bad idea? he's going in with two paroon sharks and 2 channel cats, the channels I can budge on, but we built this tank for the paroons, so if he's going to catch up with them and eat them this isn't a good idea...I've had them for about 9 months now and they are my favorites, but it would really surprise me if my rtc can catch up to them seeing as how they have a head start and have about the same growth rate you guys have said for the rtc...but what do you guys think?

There are only two kinds of fish in the world...Redtailed cats and Redtailedcatfood...

Learn it....know it... Live it...
Redtails don't ever have tankmates....just food they are saving for later...
but I really do like that....makes them sound that much cooler and makes me want more that much more

Funny that you mention that tonight.... I fed Buster a 3/4 shrimp tonight (which gets a good golf ball going) I just went to check up on him a few mins ago and he's chasing feeders around the tank... more aggressive than normal tonight.... must be going into a growth spurt!

True in some sense, but mine when put in a big enough enclosure leave everyone else alone, and just waits to be hand fed every other night. There's a few fish I am worried about in the future, but not for several months yet.:naughty:

okay, so...I've got the RTC growth rate down, but I have no idea how fast my paroons will continue to grow, so, in yourguys' opinion....will they get out grown and get eaten? right now they've got at least a foot on the baby rtc I was looking at buying....

I think that the RTC should be fine with paroons when adult as the parrons too get big and already have a head start.
thanks bruce, that's what I was looking for! They may actually be able to eat the rtc for awhile, but they are not even as aggressive as my channels, so as long as it's big enough to not get eaten by the channels, it won't be food...and you guys make rtc's sound like they are certainly aggressive enough to defend themselves...so I figure when he gets to be around 6" I'll take him out of the 55 and put him in the big tank, then he can't eat my jd's and he won't have to be in there too long to be picked on....

thanks for all of the advice everyone, but I'm not going to get him, I have a fish disease issue that needs attending to, and if these die I don't think I want any more right now...but they may pull through, keep your fingers crossed, I sure am...

Wolf3101 says it all only 2 kinds of fish, but hand feeding is fine. My rtc has been hand fed since he was feeder sized and he hasnt eaten me yet
