Problem - Aquaclear 110 Media Basket Keeps Popping Up

With my Aqua Clears I found squeezing out the sponges every other day of so in a bucket of water change water kept the sponge from plugging.
If you don't get rid of the crap, its not really out of the tank, its just metabolizing in the filter creating elevated nitrates.

So, in terms of a status update on the filter popping up. I do believe I solved it. I rinsed the sponge several times in old aquarium water, much more thoroughly than I had last time. Suffice it to say, much more crap had gotten sucked into that sponge than I'd initially believed. But the sponge had been rinsed now, and the media basket is staying down.

And also, I'm simply using the sponge + bio media bag in the filter. No activated carbon or other chemical filtration. It's good to know this problem's finally been solved.

Not sure if it was mentioned but when ever mine does that its usually because the sponges are soo gunked up the water isnt passing through them instead its pushing them up

I run two AquaClears on each tank and rinse one on about the 15th and the other on the 30th of every month. Someone mentioned squeezing out the sponges every other day; that seems like way too much work. I do one-third water changes on the 10th, 20th, and 30th.

Of course number of fish, tank size, and feeding regime might make your schedule of maintenance different than mine.
