A Big Problem just came up and i need some opinions. My Dogface puffer isnt eating like he normally is... its because of his teeth. Ive just noticed how big they have grown. i throw in turbo snails once a month to wear them down, and i'll give him the tails from whole shrimp around once a month to help wear them down also, but when i gave it to him this time, his teeth are soo bad that he cant get his motuh around anything! anyone have any suggestions???????

Your going to have to trim them :(

Get out the file.....:(, should really feed them clam and snail and shrimp more then once a month. Small mussels cost like 12 ceants each, can feed him one a week, will do wonders for those teeth.

To properly care for them YES feed them allot more often with their natural foods :) Do not file with a normal file read the add provided to attempt such a procedure ... If you want to pull them out every so often you won't waste 0.12 cents.. If you want them to thrive it will be more like an investment :)

i saw in a magazine, maybe aquarium fish monthly or something where this dog faced puffers teeth grew so fast that hard shelled foods wouldnt work and he actually took him to the dentist a coupe times a year to get them dremeled down. basically thye put him in a bucket and then dropped something in the bucket that worked like instant anesthesia for fish...i cant remember what it was but it was like vinegar, or vegetable oil or something strange like that. they filed them down and then put him in fresh water and voila, came right back.

The stuff your trying to think of that puts fish to sleep to work on them is "Clove Oil". Don't use it unless you know how much to use per gallon of water though.

I suggest trying to find a dentist and performing this procedure myself. Sounds crazy but it will work. At least then you can get them at normal length and start feeding more shelled foods to keep them down. Who knows, maybe the dentist will find it fun! :D

Thanx guys, im going tommorow to my Local Saltwater specialty store, to see if he will help me, i know hes probably seen this problem befor... if he cant help im on my own lol. thanks alot for the help. i'll keep you guys updated on if it works or info on my attempts...

yeah clove oil. i wouldnt really try it myself cuz im not totally sure how much to use but yeah thats what i read so the problem isnt as uncommon as you might think. hope it all works out.
