4lb line can hold a little more than 4lbs. It depends on how big the fish are you catch. If there 4lbs and under you may worry some. If there over 4 then upgrade to 5-8lbs.

Anyway, to the op... If your knot change is working out for you, awesome! What brand mono are you using? I wouldn't use braided line in super clear water with spooky trout. Braids have thier place, but trout fishing isn't usually it.
