Problem with my Black Aro Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
get some grate and hot glue it to the outlet for the water so the current is not so strong.

I definitely have to do something. IDK if my test kit is just old and doesn't read correctly, but here are the parameters and values I just measured:
Nitrate: 0-5 ppm, Nitrite: 0 ppm, Ammonia: 0.5 ppm

Now, I used this same filter in the same tank full w/ 7 fish before and always had perfect levels. One thing I could do is put the jur and IT in my 40 breeder, but I would have to take my del out of the 40 so it wouldn't get eaten and put it in w/ the aro. I could replace the heaters w/ stealths so no heater burn (or make heater guards, but I am wary of glass heaters since my last one broke) and follow one of the suggestions for cutting down the current of the in-tank filter. Do you think that is a better idea? The aro eats well and doesn't act like there's anything wrong, that I can notice, but any ammonia scares me.

i did that with mine until recently because it was overpoowering and stressful to my aro.

i'm sorry, but did what exactly?

A little currents not gonna kill it. I have 1 of my baby blacks (I'm assuming ours are around the same size) in a 30 with a cascade 600 internal filter with the output pointed down towards the gravel. It moves the water around a fair bit but the aro is very healthy and doesnt mind the current at all. BTW both of mine are eating Hikari carnivore food sticks which I would highly recommend.

lol srry i meant that the current was to powerful and the arowana had troubly getting across the tank.

ok. I am going to do some rearranging that will hopefully work out and have the aro by itself w/ the divider just separating the glass heater. i'm trying to save money, so I'm just going to buy one stealth heater. I don't feel like making heater guards and will eventually replace the other glass heater, anyway.

I got everything switched over. The aro doesn't seem to mind the del or the current. The del is tiny and inactive, so there shouldn't be a problem, but I'll monitor carefully.
