Hi everyone, my tig. catfish seems to have some type of illness that I can't pin point, but hopefully someone can shed some light on it...
A couple months ago, my tig got really bloated and things didn't look so well with him...until a member here suggested epsom salt. I was amazed that after adding some of that, it cured my tig, but only temporarily. I would come to find that every 3 weeks to a month or so, he would swell up again, and more epsom salt would have to go in...and on and on.
My water parameters are great, the other tankmates are very healthy, all but him. So I just thought that this would have to be a perminant thing for him and accepted it...
Things got worse yesterday. While I was feeding him (massivore), I noticed that when he swam to the food, he violently/sporatically/twitched for about 2 seconds...and now he does this when he swims sometimes....there is nothing physically wrong with him, however when I was looking under him I noticed a cut by his anus...so I gentle lifted him and snapped this pic-not sure if he did this on a rock but the rock was removed just incase...I'm hoping its not something internal, like a parasite?
Can someone please help me, I really want to help him before its too late.
Thank you in advance.

Do any of the other fish twitch like that? Have you added anything new to that tank? Plants, fish etc? Is he twitching while swimming, or is he rubbing himself against something? Maybe that cut is bothering him or something. Hope he starts acting himself again :)

he's the only one twitching like that mamapuff...everyone else seems to be perfect...and nothing new was added to the tank...i just feel like I'm at a dead end...its almost like that show mystery diagnosis...

Is the fish breathing fast or showing any abdominal discoloration?
Could be signs of internal bacterial infection.
Paleness on the gills?
If it's a scaleless fish (not sure about tigs) it could be signs of internal sweling from dropsy.

The twitching could be resultant of seeded tapeworm larve ... they inhabit the muscles of carniverous fish that have eaten either crustacions or smaller infected fish.

Why did they suggest the epsom salt on the other thread? Is it a treatment for some known condition? At this point my suspicion is some internal paracite to be honest.

dreamsing...this sounds like a possibility, and he is breathing a little heavier then usual...they told be about the epsom because he swelled up-
is there anything that can be done to treat internal parasites?
clocks ticking people so anything would be great!!!!
thanks in advance!!!

I was begining to read through it yes...the tig has never been in a overcrowded tank-he's in a 75 gal tank (see sig below). Water parameters looked good, but will confirm when I get home...but after reading one of the articles, it appears that my other fish are capable of getting this too??? great!

so its ok to treat the whole tank w/ the tankmates in there as well? and does anyone know if either petsmart/pet goods/petland discounts carry those meds...as those are the closest stores in my area
thanks

EDIT: Just spoke with lfs they said to use general cure...it has Metronidazole in it...is that ok?
