I was begining to read through it yes...the tig has never been in a overcrowded tank-he's in a 75 gal tank (see sig below). Water parameters looked good, but will confirm when I get home...but after reading one of the articles, it appears that my other fish are capable of getting this too??? great!

Pretty much anything a fish can have it can give to other fish. Just keep watching them and make sure they don't exhibit similar symptoms.

so its ok to treat the whole tank w/ the tankmates in there as well? and does anyone know if either petsmart/pet goods/petland discounts carry those meds...as those are the closest stores in my area
thanks

EDIT: Just spoke with lfs they said to use general cure...it has Metronidazole in it...is that ok?

If their general cure is approved for scaleless fish, and there are no inverts you care about in the tank my guess is that it is unlikely to do any harm.

You may also want to open up a thread under freshwater diseases. There is a better chance that you'll find someone with more experience treating fish there. I have done a fair bit of reading, but all my advice is academic. Someone with first hand experience will be able to give you more useful advice.

the first thing i would do is stop feeding that massivore crap - get your fish onto decent wet food -its far better for the digestive system-try eating nothing but dry biscuits for a month and see if you swell up and have a red ass.:D

thanks guys...yeah i do switch it up and give him shrimp sometimes, but I get what your saying jprp...will keep this post updated...and will read if general cure is approved for scaleless...thanks again!

Ok so I checked my levels (used api kit) and nitrites and amonia were perfect-didn't check ph but thats usually around 7.8ish...
I bought general cure, and no where on the box did it mention anything about not using the product on scaleless fish, so I added the appropriate amount...
Checked on him this morning, he's still breathing quick...and the other tankmates are fine...
should I follow the directions on the box or the ones that were in the sticky dreamsing?

thanks again!

UPDATE:
He is doing a lot better...he finally started breathing normally yesterday, and had a small appetite for the first time in about a week! He also ate a little piece of shrimp this morning! I'm happy to say things are looking better :)

Sounds like what you're doing now is working. If the tig starts getting worse, I'd follow the instructions in the sticky. Otherwise, stick with what works. Best of luck to you.
