Hey guys im still having problem getting my water clean recently ive had a Algae invasion and been trying to sort it out by Adding algae killer Liquid (didnt work ) ive tried changing water as much up to 80% when i only had 1 fish in it , ive tried black sacks on the aquarium to elimnate any light too make that kill the algea (only tried it for 1-2 days) , i know u can get a UV sterelizer but i dont think i can afford one atm . So anyone got any solid advice what i can do to make this go away? im running a FX5 with a eheim powerhead (175g) . thanks for any help!

What's in the tank bio-load wise? How long are your lights on per day? How much do you feed? Foggy white could be a bacterial bloom which is normal and will clear on it's own over time. Usually green means over feeding or excess nutrients algae strives on with too much hours with lights on or direct sunlight.

Ehm ive got no plants atm i removed them all becasue of messy fish earlier ive got 2 roots tho that gives off some "white slime" , stock is 2 small silver aros and a walking catfish. I usally feed shrimp which i remove if its not eaten fast cant really say how often i keep my lights on its very diffrent from day to day.

Yeah well i dont think the food is the problem tho i think its the "algea"

trust me, by adding food you'll be encouraging the bloom.;)

if it's definitely algae, it can only be caused by high nitrate or phosphate or too much light. which is it?

I dont know tbh , but ive been told adding some fast growing plants will prevent it so im gonna try that i never had any problems with this earlier so dunno could be the light ive got 4x light tubes forgot how strong they were but anyway i usally keep 2 on , not very often i use all of them so ...

Plants can outcompete the algae for nutrients which is why they tend to be effective in preventing algal blooms. You'll want hornworts, Egeria densa, duckweeds and hygrophilas for this task.

You could simply have the problem I once had which was high phosphates in my tap water REGARDLESS of what I did the algae was there to stay.

I purchased an inexpensive DI unit called tapwater purifier and problem was solved. After few water changes the tank water was phosphate free.

Things that kill algae can easily kill fish or throw the tank into chaos as good bacteria is killed thus increasing ammonia and or ph goes crazy thus dont use them and in the end algae will return.

Right i added a few Egeria densa lets hope they sort the problem.
