If he likes to go up and down the glass and land on his tail a lot that could be your problem. My ray also does that and will have the tip of his tail marked up from time to time. I just keep my water clean and it always heals just fine. Just keep an eye out for any secondary infections

One of my female motoros used to go up the glass and fall back on her tail which would rub on the sand. She had the exact same markings. she is bigger now and there hasn't been any of this type of damage in a very long time.
Based on the Utube I saw, it definitely looks like the other fish are making life difficult for your ray. If it were mine, I'd get those other fish out of there!
Just a heads up, when I kept Geos with my rays the picked at the tails of my motoros when I had them. OUT they went.
