I have a 8" giant gourami in my tank and have just put a 9" scleropages jardini to go in with it but the strange thing is, the jardini is following the giant gourami around and then the giant gourami is kissing him on the scales, its not a very aggressive bite but im worried, if i have to the giant gourami can go but my mum is obsessed with gary the giant gourami and its going to be hard to split them, any suggestions?

I WOULD LOVE THAT! but she doesn't want another tank... we dont have the space. she's all aggy saying if the aro died he dies, but id prefer to not have £120 die on me when i just bought him or ever! my friend has a large tank of frontosa that the gg could go with, he is with my frontosa and they dont fight at all.

you should always have a backup plan (spare tank) when you're going to house two aggressive fish together. it might be ok for now but the aggression is only going to get worse as they grow.

i dont think its a problem as long as the Jardini does not get spooked and starts smashing is head on the glass or lid.
In my experience the Jardini will end up being the aggressor in no time. However if you see scales missing on the arowana then you got problems
I would monitor the situation closely. They might get used to each other. also you could buy a cheap divider in case it gets too crazy it will give you some time to figure out what your next move is.

Good luck

Your mom is going to end up quite sad, once that jardini gets comfortable in it's new tank. There is a good chance that jardini will kill the G.G.

When I bought my big jardini I was given a GG.. They were housed together before I bought them. I had to seperate them due to aggression. Here is what a jardini can do to a GG that is close to the same size.

Good luck,

Jardini's are BEASTS. They kill anything in due time (if they dont get killed first). Try and show your mom the pic of what a jar can do to a giant gourami and let her read our comments. Then let us know what she says. I think that would be hilarious.

i didnt think GG's were that aggresive? The word jardini on any thread seems to involve death and destruction. The odd person seems to keep them with other fish but from what i read time and time again doesnt end to well when they reach 12"+. If money wasnt an issue asian arowana dont get as big and have a better temperament.

GGs get spontaneous tantrums when they get older and can do some damage
my RTG is more aggressive than my jardini. it's hit or miss.
