problems!! calling all ray owners!! i need help. i'm slowly loosing my rays!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My ray stopped eating for 3 weeks. I added prazi and on the 4th day she was FREAKING out and gasping and taking in oxygen from the O2 tube. I said to my self this prazi is killing her. I removed the prazi. Next days she started eating!!! She bounced back so well! 4 to 5 days later I re dosed prazi and it did not affect her at all! First time I dosed the die off must of been affecting her not the prazi.

The fluke egg hatch cycle is every 4 to 7 days

First off take a deep breath Keep !!! I know it's hard been there myself many times!!! second your doing the right thing Keep it up !!!! Wether Bacterial fungal or parasitical something was introduced that your rays couldn't handle just keep the water clean and offer food every day you will get thru this!!!

Stupid question how do you know a ray has flukes just by rappid breathing? any imflamation in the spiracle or gill slits? how obvious is it?

What i am seeing and have read and been told.

Usually its an obvious sign with rays, is you see "coughing" "shaking" like trying to shake a bug off., rapid breathing, lethargic, especially when you see breathing on one side (one side rises and the other does not). sometimes they look tilted when this happens. laying extremely flat, hard to explain without seeing it. I also have noticed a change in color in gills, and even the mouth looking reddish.
from what i understand most rays carry this bug, but only show signs when stressed for one reason or another, or even introducing new rays to established system.
I think also the bites, could cause secondary infections, which could of explained the loss in my Leopoldi.
My advise, which i should heed my own advice, always QT!

years ago, i had what i would assume flukes with WC hystrix. and this is exactly what i am seeing with my current rays.

this explains it pretty well

Today is day 4 of prazi treatment for my main tank. Last night I saw him still breathing out of one lung sometimes. Lucky tho he is still eating just not the way he normally does. Turned drip on this morning to slowly start flushing the tank. Hoping he will start improving!
