where can i find smelt? i've looked in several places, even a local asian market and i cannot seem to find it. are there any alternatives for smelt? i feed tilapia everyother day, and im looking to add length to my polys. any help is good.

I feel your pain I'm all eyes for this one.

I'm assuming you're talking about frozen smelts. I have no problem finding bags of frozen smelts cleaned or whole. Lucky I guess.

does walmart or publix sell them?

I've never seen them in our local Walmart, but we don't have one of those super stores. I've found them in most of our local food stores and cost u less. I live in Hawaii though and to be honest, we get alot of outside stuff here because of the many different nationalities that live here. The melting pot of the Pacific.

Is there any difference to fish between feeding smelts or tilapia?

Smelt is little fish that still have skin on, usually whole. Talapia is usually fillets but they don't have skin most the time. Smelt IME is easier to feed and portion. I pick mine up in the frozen seafood section at Walmart.

From what I've read, tilapia helps add girth and smelt adds length. That is what I read in this forum. I'd love to see some science behind it though. I'm all about the facts.

I would rather feed talapia than smelt.
