Problems with aqueon water change hose

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have the same problem as my tank is in the basement and sink on the first floor. I hook up the end in the tank to a small pump and also use the water running in the sink on the other end to siphon. The small pump adds just enough push together with the water running to move the water upstairs. The pump by itself isn't enough and the water pressure itself isn't enough, but combined it works.

I have opposite problem. Lol, I have great water pressure and there is so much vacuum It drains too much water before I'm finished with the gravel. lol.. also the vacuum is so strong it tries to flatten out the hose.

Good idea with the sub pump and the barb fitting. I should just do that..

Now if I only had a garden hose that delivered tropical fish water temp, I'd be set!

I use a 500 GPH pump as well but I also go through several connectors a year because they seem to crack, the old Pythons were the best, never had any issues from them. So now I have spare connectors because last time it cracked during filling up around midnight when no one was open so had to drain water from the 265 to the 500 to even it out till the morning.

I got one of these fountain pumps that pumps 600 gph the other day on sale from Harbor Freight with a 20% coupon and it came out to $27.99 plus tax. This thing drained my tank in no time and no wasted water! Pumped it up one floor to the sink.

The way it works best is you hook it up to the adapter thing on the sink and let water run from the sink into the hose until its all the way into the tank. THIS IS WHAT PRIMES THE SIPHON. Then, close the valve that's on the end of the hose by the sink (if the Aqueon model comes with it) or just kink the hose by the sink and remove it. Then, take the end that was attached to the sink and toss it out of a window.

For a siphon to work properly, the outlet has to be LOWER than the LOWEST point of your tank. Odds are good when its hooked up to the sink, its below the water level but not the bottom of the tank, so you get really poor water pressure. Use your hose like I told you above and you'll find its a very useful tool.
