very wattery, i dono why.

my fish will be ok if i feed them everyother day? ( i have a clown, dart fish and a shrimp )

also did u say more rock will help? i can get like 10 more lbs. . . . .

Watery skimmate is fine. skimming wet pulls more out than skimming dry. you should have some crap at the bottom of the cup. I would try and avoid chaeto, all seaweeds will become a problem at some point and they really are not the best to get rid of nutrients. what kind of skimmer are you using?

I've always used sea weed but, I stay on top of trimming as well. If you won't do that I agree they aren't any good. I would cut back on feedings and try to get some form of nutrient export. I'm not a big fan of anything chemical required to keep your tank stable there is too mcuh room for failure.
Hth and keep us posted
max

what are your water parameters? how often do you do waterchanges? how big are your water changes? adding more rock will not help the situation at all.

keeping the lights to try to kill it off wont kill it, just prolong the process of killing it. do lots of water changes or large ones

What problem are you suggesting chaeto will create? If it is in a fuge and pruned to remove nitrates it is an effective tool in keeping a healthy marine tank.

Seaweed still captures debris and keeps it in suspension, which allows that debris to dissolve into phosphate. it also will not remove Phosphate and nitrogenious compuunds as fast as a skimmer can (by eliminating the debris).

additionally you will always run the risk of seaweed going sexual and spewing a ton of eggs and sperm into your tank and killing your coral and sensitive fish.

it may have a place somewhere, but not in my tank.

Chaeto doesn't go sexual like that. And it isn't meant to be the cure all to removing excess or negative nutrients to a tank. It is meant to be a tool just like anything we use in our systems. Live rock can capture debris as well but it certainly isn't enough of a reason to forgo using it in my opinion.

While i will agree that chaeto is safer, it does have a bad habit of trying to take over whatever space it is in. back in the day i even had some make it from my sump into my display. Chaeto also winds pretty tight which will hold organics in suspension which will cause a problem over time.

in the end i have never seen a refugium that was able to keep up or even assist a good skimmer... just my opinion.

Like anything it has to be maintained, if you pull out clumps to remove the nitrates and shake it a bit it can be useful. However, I do appreciate that there are many ways to approach the hobby and that it might not be your preference for running a tank.
