Well for those who are in "the know" this has been coming since the 1st unfertilized spawn of these two..I put it on the backburner due to the the female showing interest in spawning with the big orino male which was sucessfull....well I was going to rebreed the orinos one more time,but noticed the big zuli cycling with the younger azuls...so I moved him in with momma orino again in the 7x2x3 breeder tank by themselves...its been a year,so lets see what happens...here is a teaser pic..and yes it is what it looks like ;)

Awww man, aren't cichla difficult enough to ID as it is? Nice looking fish though.

I think the likely hood of an Orino and Azul can happen. My Orino brushes up with only the Azuls in my tank. My Orino would swim around around a flat slate stone I have in my tank and hover above it in a helicopter like stance and fan around the stone. The Orino will rush one particular Azul looking like it will strike but then back off? like a teasing gesture or something. It's also with the same Azul. Very interesting to watch. My tank is probably to crowded for them to boogie but we'll see. Good luck with the venture and hopefully something great will come out of it. Will give me hope =-)

They spawned once already (the orino females 1st batch/lay was to this azul but the eggs werent fertilized). As for spawning your guys..you will know when it happens as you will think one is going to die..very very hardcore fighting just days before and uber aggressive if other fish are in with them...during the 1st azul/orino match up I lost all those wild caught adult rotkiels,2 adult oscars,and a pleco to the male azul...there will be no mistaking activity to prespawn...if it happens move them out of the main tank.
