My secondhand impression is that it will take 2-3 years to put on another foot but I'd love to hear firsthand experiences. I wish Arapaimag chimes in as he brought up more than one wyckii to adulthood but too often he appears to be too busy.

He has shown that he has done entirely to many thing right in the hobby not to take his experiances into account. personally my lil' guy has suddenly changed and become much more territorial.. i'm hoping this is a phase ( like what we went threw w/ our other cats in the 6"-10" range where the got suddenly extreamely aggressively territorial. He is deffinatly not happy when our good sized bigger fire eel pushes him around his hiding log. He was fine until the eel asserted its dominance.. and imo this may be the key to coming him in the future. he may need to be the "top dog" and have tank-mates not easily eaten. atm its pure speculation, but I will be trying this in the 56 w/ some other tank-mates and seeing if it might work.

maybe we will both find out the hard way and lose a big tankmate all of a sudden! i find it hard to believe my 14 incher could hurt my 12 inch midas after the snakehead survived, unless he ripped off a side fin of course...

hi all, un-believably i have sold my jag today and it turned out to be the old owner of the wyckii...! He has kept countless expensive fish and believe it or not grew him out with a red arowana!!! so he spent from 4 inch with a 4inch aro all the way too 13 inch a piece with no problems, he was hand feeding him too in a tank with no decor except a plant pot, he liked to dig alot apparently shame i have no gravel for him to wreck lol! well its nice to know he's been docile and communed since small!-) small world for monster keepers!

hey all, project over! wyckii lived up to its name un-surprisingly, he attacked both 7 inch festae and had the 8 inch syno's back third in his mouth by the looks of it! anyway long story short he now resides in temporary residence in the jewel 120, his settled in over night and rearranged the sand and wood then continued to attack the missus as she cleaned the tank!-) need to set his 150 up now asap... the damage to the fish was superficial and all should be well in a week or so.

heres some pics of him, at least i can see him now and he actually looks happier.

Great report, Justin!

A 1-footer in a 300 gal claimed the whole tank...

This sounds consistent with Arapaimag's report about their territory size. In his case, his adult wyckii claimed a 10'x10' patch of his 15,000 gal.

cheers mate, they are aggressive but im finding wet pet appeal is great... theres only a few fish ive grown so close to so quickly over the years one being a giant gourami called pearsi he was also a maniac though and i had no room so he had to go!-( the other being a 13inch midas called carlsberg, he was probably the best midas in the world haha...

I love it!
