So Cal
Yesterday I went to see about purchasing 2 Brokopondo's for my collection. I was so excited! I have wanted these since I first saw them come in. When we could finally catch them and get them into my bucket I noticed they were both really beat up. I took a closer look and noticed they were really sick, so I was not about to leave them there.

This is my chronical of their rehabilitation...

Day 1: Both fish are between 4" & 6" showing very advanced fin rot, sores in various spots on their faces and between the eyes, and gill curl.

-The gill curl on the smaller of the two is far more advanced and seems to be affecting his breathing.

My goodness if you don't mind what fishkeeper would do this to any fish let alone a hundred doller fish:irked::(:(:cry:I just don't understand...

well at least you have them now the sores look to be like amonia burns posable bacteria infection geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze that just irkes me it would be waaaaay more humane just to slam them on the concrete a couple times:irked:this took time...

Wtf?? Thats f'd whoever let that happend..good luck on saving them bro..do daily wc adding salt every water change and stress coat..keep us posted..

Fins dont look like rots to me but how ever those sores you mentioning , let just hope it isnts "Holes" .. those happen to pb a lot in bad waters. and it almost incurable.

Just like bass said.. change water.

currently what feed do you feed them with.
If your not the thrifty type , try buying human multi-vitamins and stuff whatever their eating in it.
Not only it brazen their colors but it always help their system fight back whatever eating them.

dont put in any main tank i hope. It could be really infectious.. give them warm baths..

hope they stay alive

Yes I add salt to all of my tanks as a buffer. I also keep the temperature around 85 degrees to keep their immune system up.

I dont want to post his name because he is pretty active on this forum and I am pretty sure he is a friend/acquaintance to many of you. I was VERY upset when I saw them.

Me too, I have them now and they are going to be taken much better care of now... When I told my girl she said "You know we arent Angelina and Brad Pitt right?" She said that I treat my Cichlas like my children and therefore we dont need to have children (She's right, we dont need to have children haha) I should join C.R.E.A.M. because they really do rule everything in my life.

Thanks. I am doing a medication cycle, so I will do a water change after that, and I always add salt as a buffer.

-Is there an advantage to Stress coat to Amquel? I use Amquel

They are in their own quarantine tank until they improve significantly. I dont want the others to see them as weak and attack them of have them infect my other cichlas... human multi-vitamins? Just any multi-vitamin? Cost means nothing! And They are eating pellets.
