So my discus tank is currently in progress and I wanted it to have a hard-scape theme to it.
I wanted to use PFS (Pool Filter Sand) and was wondering what brand would be the best to use?
I dont want my sand too fine due to filter and syphoning issues. Any recommendations?
**Picture is not updated** Bought more tetras and corys. Sponge filter is no longer in the tank
only used it to cycle the tank. Plan on buying more discus, driftwood, stones, and sand of course.
Back ground is going to be taken down when complete. Planning on relocating everything to
make things a lot more flush with all of the filters/heaters.

:popcorn: Pretty much just as it looks in the picture. Maybe a tad bit lighter but not white. Works very well. "T"
 
I use PFS from Leslie's swimming pool store. It's ~10 bucks for 50 lbs.
 
I don't have discus, but I have geos who sift through the sand all the time and the PFS I use (Quikrete brand) is heavy enough to stay at the bottom, but soft enough to not injure their mouths or gills.

I too buy my PFS from a pool supply store. My 50lb bags only cost $8. :)

:popcorn: Truthfully, it was a bit tricky at first. Basically, you wanna just skim the surface for debris when syphoning. Once that's done I gently comb & aerate the sand. All the fish, big & small usually watch from the other end till I'm done. Then I turn everything back on & it's business as usual. "T"
