prolapse: switching from salt treatment to Epson salt

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I’d go with out and see if it gets worse. Maybe just soak the food in a epsom salt solution Atleast every other day. See how it goes.

Okay. I just water changed and redosed yesterday so I'll start water changing out the Epson salt tomorrow (just spent 2.5 hrs water changing my display and rearranging things to fit a new cave for the clown Loaches so I'm wiped out).

I guess I do 30-50 Percent tomorrow and just let it dilute down with further water changes. I'll look into the food soaking after I see what happens in the next few days.

Thanks.

I have a fish with a prolapse and was doing decent research and came across this thread.

1 tablespoon of epsom salts in 4L (1 gallon) of tank water for 5-10 mins, then 1/2 tablespoon of Epsom salts in 4L (1 gallon) of tank water for 10 mins. I had a heater and airstone running constantly in both solutions.

The bottom photo was taken about 10 mins after I put her back into my community tank. I’ll keep an eye on her and potentially do another bath tonight before I go to bed, but I’m astounded at not only how well it worked, but how quickly. She did appear a little distressed while in the solution, but I monitored her for the whole time she was in the bath. She wasn’t showing any signs of distress/illness (colour normal, no clamped fins, eating, swimming normally, normal behaviour) with the prolapse, but appears much happier now.

Wanted to post showing pics of before and after for anyone else who stumbles on this thread looking for answers.
