"Prong collar" on dogs... any opinions?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yep he gets walked, and he is almost always either in the gated off kitchen or out, either with someone or with free roam. But when company is coming he is either being held or crated.

hmm it sounds to me like he just needs someone to teach him some discipline and doggie manners. have your parents thought of enrolling him in a dog training class? they really arent that expensive-and well worth it..

or try finding another dog trainer that will do sessions with you, your parents and the dog once a week..

I'm 14, and next to broke :(

It's almost summer....start mowing some lawns or something. It sounds like you need to get creative. Maybe you could go meet with some local trainers and tell them your situation and maybe you could work out a deal to clean for them or something....Worst they can do is tell you no. If you've tried talking to to your parents and that isn't working than I think the only thing that is going to help you is getting good results with the dog. Just keep trying different things. If you can't find anyone to work with you on the training, pick one problem that the dog has that you can work on your own. Download some info on the different training methods some people on here have told you about. Make a DIY clicker and use your own treats and start training the dog yourself in you own time when your parents aren't around.

You'd be surprised how few lawns there are in Bay Ridge
And a job isn't really an option, as a freshman in high school I get a ton of homework every day, and my weekends are dominated by training to "work" at the zoo... that's very important to me... :(

I would use them in extreme circumstances. The pinch collar was made to mimmick the teeth of the mother dog. And to the person who said he's over a year old the mother doesn't correct him anymore should go read a book. All calm dogs will correct other dogs in the close viscinity that are acting unruly. The metal pinch collard come with rubber caps for the pincers and should be left on... don't listen to anyone that says dog training can be done in a couple of times a week, they obviously know nothing.. training a dog is a 24 hour a day 7 day a week job and they need to be corrected everytime they behave in a way other then what you deem unnacceptable. Both of my dogs have a standard collar and a choke, with them beeing walked from the choke high on the neck..
