Pronunciation of types

Bichir= "bih-sheer". French spelling of an Arab or Nilotic name.

Re: kelberi, proper Latin would be "kel-ber-ee", but a lot of English speakers pronounce the final i as English long I.

Proper Latin pronunciation demands that all c's are hard, but this rule is seldom followed. If it were, Cichla ocellaris would be "ki-khla ah-kel-lar-is", not "sik-la oh-sel-ler-is".

Pronunciation of scientific names is not standardized. Most groups of specialists have their own traditional pronunciations. Since these are the people you'll have to deal with, learn how they say the names and follow suit.
