Cichlids are smart - they get accustomed to their diet, which means that they take longer to realize that something else is food.
I don’t have any specifics, but I would recommend aquatic plant matter like algae based foods.
Ok so I got to experimenting LOL ? and it worked so I did 1/4 cup of peeled peas with 3/4 cup peeled and cooked chopped shrimp and put it in a food processor and then made a thick gelatin and added enough to keep it thick and froze it not only does it sink but he loves it so I am considering adding a second veggie like spinach also a little garlic juice!!! I am so happy with this result do you think that food 2 times a day will be ok…… ???? Until I make another batch?…..

anyway got spooked no idea ? why literally just flipped out on me I just leant down at the other end the clown loach hurt his head so I was seeing if there’s anything I could do. Well there’s really not he got a small scratch from a plant I fixed it , point is X the JD acted as if I was in the tank she freaked out and almost jumped right out. Any idea why the fish suddenly felt threatened like that idk ? she was a left behind rescue long story….. but I really want to make it work out….. I really care about her/him I don’t think that’s important rn working on a conclusion there as well

In nature, jd and many cichlids (and other fish their size) are easy prey for birds and other animals. They naturally stay low and hide, and movement above the water especially will freak them out.
The best solution is a cover of floating plants (make the fish feel hidden) and dither fish (mindless schooling behavior makes jd think it’s safe).
