Im gonna pick up my wet/dry tomorrow and I wanted to know what to do after I hook it up to the overflow. Also how big of a pump should i get, its a 55 gallon.

I would go with a 300gph pump (take into consideration loss of flow due to head pressure).

install a ball valve after the pump, and one in the overflow line (makes maintenance easier).
Make sure your overflow will flow 300gph.

1 fill the tank untill it starts to overflow, let the water level get above the pump, plug the pump in. Keep an eye on the water level, as it will drop in the sump. While it's running, keep filling it untill you get the water at the level that you want in the sump. If the water starts to rise in the tank, you will either need a smaller pump, or a bigger overflow.
I would go with this pump: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=9849&N=2004+113041
I have a coulple quiet one pumps and I love them. They are very quiet and powerful pumps.

mag drive....

I thought Magdrives were great untill I got a quiet one.
I like the quiet one pumps better than my Little Giant.

My overflow is rated at 550 gph. So I Should get a pump that rates at 500gph ??

You can't overfilter.

But there is a point where more is not better. If you can do the same job while using less electricity, why go bigger?

my wet/dry filters turn the tank over 3x per hour. The ammonia and nitrite are 0, and that's what the filters job is...so why go bigger?

My thing is that i dont want my water flow in the tank to be crazy where the green terror's are blown all over the place

My fish love the crazy water flow I've got going on in my tank, but then again they are all estuarine brackish species that love current.
