ive read that most of the temperature information is airtemperature or water *surface* temperature at best so it does raise alot of questions and it stands to reason that whilst lakes would still be colder at depth that they would more than likley be warmer than a river of the same depth as its constantly fed rather than standing. but even in lakes the temp is massivly different in the shallows to the surface of deep water.
it would be nice if someone could tag a ray and check temperatures and movment and put some definate answers in here![]()
different species live in different depths
i think we just need to go with a happy medium mantian it and acclimatize them to it.i dont think anything is wrong if it works its right,if you kill your ray you messed up,but honestly who can confirm they killed their rays from maintaining a temp.i have only herd of people cooking their rays.even if the heater breaks i think the rays can handle the cooler water for a lot longer than we all think.i got in a few orders from thialand last year and he never put heat packs.it was winter here the water was probably 40-45 degrees in the bagg .those rays lived and are still alive and huge now.i didnt do a very long acclimation process or anything.they seem to be fairly tolerant to temp in my experiences.i thought it was quite amazing those rays survived that trip in baggs for 44 hours and arrived with a temp of 40.not to mention the ammonia in the baggs gagged me when i opened them!!
Another great topic,
