Yep, but again it depends on what you feed it. Try power feeding it, but always skip feeding him/her the next day. Don't wanna have liver problems/ swim bladder disease.

Yeah, I hope I have one, but I don't have the space anymore .

I think it runs about 1/2 inch per month on average - with good food, good water, and a comfortable environment.

Not sure of the average size of one in captivity but there have been some great pics of some very nice sized ones. Mine is now somewhere around 11 inchs - I think

Disagree with the no pleco and BGK combo. Mine is at about 10-11 inches and shares his spot with a mango pleco. Grew up with angels, mollies, rosy barbs and senegals. Only issue is when a bichir gets in the way at feeding time. Eats anything that hits the bottom. Pellets, wafers, shrimp, fish.

I think that sometimes it is a case of the fish 'growing up together'.
If they are together when they are small then they seem to get along when they grow up. The biggest problem seems to be introducing new 'tank mates' once the BGK has staked out their terrority.

The mango was added last and immediately took up residence with the BGK.

i want to add one to my tank, but it might eat my swordtails, and it might not like my african brown knifefish. its a risk i may have to take

One issue I see with juveniles is competition for food in a community tank.. If you have alot of aggressive eaters such as barbs and tetras, the BGK has a hard time getting food.. Not usually an issue once they get larger and more well established.

my tank consists of 7 angels, 1 blue gourami, 1 male, 3 female swordtail, and an ABK

What I've noticed with bgk, they don't get agressive with bottom dwelling fishes like bichirs, ropes, eels, rays etc.
