protecting hardwood floors

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well that was fast.

I just finished a skin for my tank. Took some vinyl flooring glued to masonite and used magnets to attach to the tank stand.

Not perfect but was quick and cheap
only quick because I wanted2 smoke a cigar and drink. 12 hrs shifts at Work really wear me down and wanted to relax :)

that's actually what I was thinking of doing but didn't know how to do it. care to share some details . what thickness masonite and where you got magnets

Man it would have taken me forever to get that done.

I didnt go nuts since the tank is in my basement but the masonite is 1/4. It was pretty easy. I didnt want to waste any pieces of vinyl so i instead of using equal lengths and staggering them (would have looked better) i also used the small scrap pieces. The stand is 8ft long so i didnt have to cut much since the masonite was 24 inches wide. If you could build a stand in one afternoon you can do this with your eyes closed

Magnets were from HD but if I were you i would use velcro since your stand is wood. HD/lowes sells industrial strength stuff.

Here's an early picture of the tray we built that my sump sits on top of. It's not going to protect from any flood, but, the intent was something flat and solid that the heavy sump could rest on and any would help with splashes and spills. It's 3/4" MD Overlay board, 3 coats of paint and white water proof liner.

The stand sits on top of mud liner for when I get spalshes and water won't go underneath the stand.

Yeah, there's risk sitting with the tank in my livingroom. I did what I reasonably could considering the Herbie and sump.

Before I wrapped my metal stand, I used the same Medium Density Overlay Board to mount my equipment. I didn't want to drill holes and go screws, so I went overkill with Neodymium magnets. That will take you fingers off between the magnets and the metal stand LOL.
