Agree with the above, beef was once thought to be good, but of late, research has shown fish have a hard time digesting the type of fats in mammalian flesh, which can lead to liver failure. How many times do you think fish get a chance to feast on beef in nature?
And though FHs are not a "natural occurring" cichlid, the crosses of species they are made from, come from omnivorous species that require vegetation to help clear the gut to remain healthy.
I never said that the genetic make up of FH was herbivorous, I used the term omnivorous. Too much protein in a FH diet is harmful, not helpful. Beefheart is one of the worst dietary supplements that you can feed your fish, and in FH has been associated with some serious gastrointestinal complications. See following paper:

What do you guys like to feed when high protein is needed? I have young discus, and often read it's hard to get them to their full size potential without it. It makes sense to me that it's not good for them, so I'd like to try something different.
