Protein skimmer for ray tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There is definitely a place for one in certain applications.

Would be helpful running it once in a while but not necessary 24/7 for most indoor tanks.

Every tank is different and, everyone has different setups, maintenance routines etc.
After the initial foam is produced and organic buildup is lowered there will not be as much foam production.
Great pond addition though.

Ozone can increase efficiency.

Lots of different ways to do it. With venturi or diffuser design dwell time (bubbles w/ water) and uniformity of the bubbles are a big part.
I think 4"-6" PVC would be the minimum for the main tower.

...interesting.

Not sure I understand how it works. Then again I don't understand how it works for salt either...

If it can remove heavy metals and organics, could incoming water be run through this first to remove chlorine/chlorimines...crap in general before getting to the main system. Could something like this potentially take the place of an HMA filter?

Will sure be interesting Oddball

I think you would be shocked at the amount of heavy organics in our tanks

I used to run polyfilter in my internals in my old tank not to be confused with normal poly wool

This stuff changes colour to show you what it's removing and is very costly like $60 for a 12x12" sheet and after 3 weeks it was red which is the colour it changes with heavy organics

I stopped using it as it would have cost a bomb to run the 1000g as it was costing $55 every 3 weeks to run a 350g

Just didn't seam worth the hassle as I knew loads of ray guys not using anything to remove organics

I was amazed to have almost the same tds level as my tap water which is really good. I wish more people had tds meters to test their water and see if they need to filter their water better.
