are prizm protein skimmers ( i believe that is what it was called) any good? My lfs has some there and it says good for up to 100 gallons so i was thinkin about using it on my 55

Eh...they're so so.

I would go with an Aqua C Remora if you're looking for an HOB style skimmer.

Prizm is OK for a ten gallon, otherwise I would go with something more powerful. I use the Coralife Super Skimmer 65 on my 20.

i also have this skimmer on my 29 aga it works really good and after the first two or three day break in period i was able to get it to skimm as dry as i wanted.

Mostly, they're crap. Invest in a skimmer you can count on. I used one cause I got it for free but as soon as I cound get a used Backpac for cheap, I jumped on it.

The Remora HOB skimmers are really hit or miss... i've seen a few do a great job, i've seen many churn out tea colored water, and i've seen some barely work at all..

I wouldn't put a remora on anything larger then a 29 gallon, MAYBE a 40 gallon.

But it also really depends what You keep in your tank... If you plan for SPS id really suggest a strong skimmer, if you're planning an LPS / Softies tank, id say maybe you could stick it out with a Remora..

But I would suggest doing 5-10 gallon weekly water changes. Weekly water changes make such an incredible impact
