Yes but I also have a shrimp predating on crabs problem. I was hoping maybe to take care of that one with a food increase and then I brought home 6 more animals. And besides, I wanted to see how much the snails would eat and how fast they'd clean it up. I won't feed double at every feeding if you think its a bad idea. And its not the food I have problems with, its the detritus...lol. (I know, I know, the former leads to the latter) My params are doing ok though. Phosphate was a little high but Nitrate was down and ammonia hasn't changed at all. As far as ammonia, I'm just going with that's the way the test reads. I talked to whatsisface at FLP about maybe having a defective test and getting it replaced and he said he had some funny tests in his time too.
You don't need to increase feedings for CUC's it's counter productive. The only way to get PO4 out is via phos media, it rarely reduces with w/c's. If nitrites are zero and nitrates are 40ppm or less than odds are ammonias zero.
Good to know about PO4. Thanks! I'm glad I mentioned it. I was doing the water change route. I'll go to the LFS later today and get me some "phos media."

I did get some phos ban but not in a bag, in a big sheet that I cut up into 4 pieces, 2 are in one of the HOBs. I'll test the water in a week and see if I need the other two in the other one.

i got a fix for that problem shrimp of yours.....wait isnt that the one i told you not to get in the first place? oh my damn one day maybe one day youll pick up on the things from my mouth being right all the time.....

I'd test every 4 days - should be .024 or less. If higher replace the media every week til .024 or lower holds steady.

You know....I know ok, I know...I probably screwed up when I jumped the gun. Happy now? But I was young and green and I know better now... And now I like my enormous shrimp and just figured if there was more meaty food hanging around on the bottom, he might stop eating crabs. Despite how you feel about him, I have a responsibility to him. And for all I know, grandpa crab died and he was there to monopolize on the situation...Random question, what are the odds that my crabs get together and make more?
