Here are some pics of my granulosus. I have to take them at night, because that's the only time he ever comes out of hiding. I'd say he's about 6 Inches now. I got him around 4 inches. He's always got a huge belly, though I never seem him actually eating...

Nice cat. Its Pterodoras granulosus by the way ;)

Can't believe you have pics of yours. My guy at most sticks his nose out of his pipe to suck up a pile of food and disappears. I completely forgot I had for a few months until I dismantled the tank for cleaning and was like, "OMG what the hell is that!?!" Oops! Oh yeah... LOL".

:duh:

Duh, I knew that. I always mix up Pseudodoras and Pterodoras. I keep thinking of the niger catfish, since one of my lfs' has about half a dozen that I've been drooling over for a year now...

Mine never used to come out in his old tank (a 55g), but now that he's in a 125g with sand substrate, he comes out within 5 minutes of the lights being off. I like to sprinkle some community pellet food just after the lights go off for the more nocturnal fish in the tank. That way I generally get to see them at least every couple of days, if not every day. I took some more last night that I'll try to upload today.

You have a great fish.

I had one in my 52k but have not seen him for a couple of years. He lived in a cave and only was visible about once a month when eating pellets and chunks of fish. I bought him in 1992 from Big Al's (Aquarium Services Mississauga Ontario) at 5". The last time I saw him he was about 30".

I also have 2 bought at about the same 5" size and keep them in my 15K but might move them to the 52k soon. The first was bought from Pets Plus (John & Fred) in Lockport New York in 1999 and is approx 28 to 30". The 2nd I bought from Jerry Draper at the Tropical Fish Room in Brantford Ontario and is between 24 and 26".

These 2 eat a lot of small cichlids and small plecos they catch at night so are very fat. I also feed them pellets but only 2 times a week.

I got mine from an LFS that didn't really know what it was or how big it got. They called it a maracaibo catfish, and said it only got to about 10". I got it for stupid cheap, like $8 or $9 or something like that, I think. :)

Got mine for free at a local wholesaler...mixed in with some Nigers. lol... Rarely see it... Whats the growth rate like on these guys? My Nigers have tripled in size...Granulosus...not so much.
