Right i'm looking into these cats, although information on this species is extreamly low!
I can't find out what there like with tank mates, the sizes of them, ect..ect... I've read they get 27 inch then another site says they get 14.5inches. But going by some of the online pictures I'd say they get around 2foot.

Anyone know about this species?
Information on it would be brilliant.

Thanks in advance.
Dav.

I've been into pseudopimelodid's for years but have never seen or heard of p. mangurus in the aquarium hobby. Possible reasons being they exist mostly in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, countries not much known for fish exports and also probably due to their large size. Here's a pic I found on the 'net years ago for what it's worth....Giant-p.-mungurus.jpg

I don't think I ever saw them for sale either... albeit ID-ing little guys can be far from trivial. Obviously they reach 3' in the wild. As for their behavior and character, I'd read up on all their genus members - most usually that is sufficient plus the correction/extrapolation for size, as this guy is the largest. Pseudopimelodus bufonius is by very far and large the most common in the hobby http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=955

An LFS has a 3" cutie for $25 http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=37788

I am afraid the scarcity of your findings confirms Yellowcats' statement that they are likely not/very rarely available in the trade.

His gill covers appear fully open... but still the head is huge. That's Pseudopimelodiidae for ya - head and mouth.

Thanks for the replys guys. I take it they get large then!

Looks like a flattie to me...

Yeah the cat in the pic is definately Pseudopimelodus mangurus you can see the stripes. Flatheads look different by the way their head is shaped different and if anything the closest thing to the U.S. Flathead it's the Zungaro Zungaro Jau. And Giant Bumble bee catfish is not Mangurus...the GBBC only gets to about 9inches the mangurus gets way bigger 25+inches.
