Very much south..
well the fault lies with all those awesome pix you guys invade us with here at MFK. I found them , for the first time, in a importers list and ordered, along with 2 more pacmans, a couple of Nigers...

any inputs as to growth rate, preferred foods and other trivia would be greatly appreciated..

Thank You:)

Awesome fish to keep.

I'm sure you know most of this but it never hurts to hear it again.

Grow around 1" per month to around 3 foot-ish; some larger some smaller.

Eat pretty much anything offered. Shrimp, squid, beefheart on occasion, sinking pellets are all enjoyed. Just make sure they get enough food as they aren't exactly aggressive feeders.

Supposedly gentle giants however my two went to town on one of my rays and sucked on its disk leaving skinless patches...not good. They won't eat any of the smaller community fish in their current tank however.

Generally a fun fish to own. Fairly active and can be seen day and night roaming the tank sifting through the substrate for food. However sometimes the younger O. nigers can be shy just like any other catfish.

You'll love em for sure, just be careful if you want to put them with rays.

thank you very much. I'll keep them with my aro's. No rays.

I agree with everything rc604 said, except for the growth rate. I've owned three, and I would say they grow about 1/2" per month. I had a pair that went from about 3" to 20" and 24" over about three years - a power failure killed them:)

My current niger has gone form 6" to 10" in six months, so maybe they grow faster at first?

They are great fish, you'll enjoy them.
