I just put pool filter sand in my tank and the demasoni colors really popped. The rest of the fish did too. I've heard ppl say lighter sand will wash out their colors but it made mine shine. The background is painted black so that might have helped keep them from turning to light. I looked at some black diamond sand today and it has a lot of glass particles in it... Looked nice but I just can't see putting sharp glass in with my fish knowing these type of fish dig. Just my 2 cents, good luck
