Psuedocanthicus leopardus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well I came home last night and checked on my plecos and he was dead. :( On a good note tho my gf took some good pics a few days ago so ill have those posted soon.

Sorry for your loss.
I have an individual L-114 that worries me to no end. It's quite pale in color compared to the other ones. I'm just hoping that as it's been about 6 weeks since I got it, it's ok now.
It now seems that my L-114s are eating the pellets I put in at night, as I don't see remants of them in the morning (though they could dissolve). I also notice that my coconut husk caves have been pretty chewed up, so I think they like eating them. If you get another small L-114, you may want to put a coconut husk in the tank.

I had mine for maybe 5 weeks but I'm not sure if he was eating or not. I put a few sinking pellets in every night and they were gone in the morning. I just never saw him actually eating them. When I pulled him out his belly was full and his colors were nice the whole time I had him. I want to get another one but I might wait and maybe get something different. I really want to get a royal but my lfs always gets ones with sunkin in bellies.

Hmmm.... not sure why your L-114 died, especially after 5 weeks. The only thing I can think of is you mentioned that you took it out periodically to check on it; that maybe stressed it out?
I would try a cheap bristle nose just to make sure there wasn't anything wrong with the water/tank.
As for a royal, try snook on aquabid (and MFK).

When I said I took him out I meant when he was dead and I removed him from the tank. I know its nothing with the water because I have about 6-7 guppys and a adonis pleco in there too. Ill have to check prices for royals on aquabid. I'm not a big fan of payin for shipping tho. If the price is right ill do it.

How big is the Adonis? It could be that the Adonis, which have a reputation for being nasty, stressed out your L-114. How big is your tank, and how much hiding spaces do you have? You may want to ask other folks who have had Adonis to see if you could put a royal in your current tank; Adonis get quite big, so you may need a bigger tank.

You may also want to post your question on planetcatfish. There are a few people in Europe on that forum who have Adonis and can give helpful advice.

I keep an adonis pleco and they are very aggressive.I have a feeling he may be the reason your L114 died. They seem very territorial and my guy protects his area which is about half the size of a 55 gallon tank.

Depending on how big ur tank is and hiding space.. your pleco shouldn't have died..

So sad to hear.. by any chance was it starving?

Dont give up on it. is my advice.. Make sure to have enough driftwood for hiding places for plecos.. as for feeding.. L114s eat shrimp.. raw marketshimp..

I have a large (9 inch) L-114 sterenella pleco and I just removed 2 smaller ones because of fighting. This happens at night when lights are out. My cousin owns a large adonis about 12 inches give or take and it is very nasty. It is in a 125 and will not except any bottum dwellers. Funny thing there are about 100 neons in there that this plec just ignores. So I would suspect your adonis.
