I have seen salousi, but only once. My guess is what you were seeing were not a "pure" a line. Of course I am only guessing, it may have just been a different collection point or just stressed for a variety of reasons.

If you aren't thrilled with the look of the fish in store then I wouldn't get them, but that is just me.

I used to have a group of 13 in a 55 gallon and they did just fine, but of course it was loaded with rock and places to hide in and out. Some are darker and bolder than others, the only information I found for that was it was just not a dominate trait in the fishes genes. But they don't get very big at all, I think before I had to sell them off they biggest one I had was maybe 2.5". But as far as what Mike was saying, I've never seen them in any store either.
