I’m bumping this thread because I’ve been seeing a growing number of threads about people buying these fish without researching them first.
These are big aggressively territorial fish with the power and will to exert their aggression in almost all situations. Some will never accept tank mates unless kept in very large tanks with equally large and pugnacious tank mates where a truce can be achieved and appropriate territories can be clamed. I have said we create the situations that cause problems, not the fish. Please research this or any fish for that matter before getting one. They are all cute when young like puppies but if you buy a Pit Bull and then complain you can’t take it to the dog park whose fault is that?
I hate to see a fish live a miserable existence or be discarded because we failed to be responsible fish keepers or wanted the toughest fish on the block and now that we have it don’t know what to do with it.
I couldn't have said that any better myself Tom.

He's about 16 months old and yes he still has some growing to do. Just to be clear he is Labiatus not a Midas or cross. Here's a couple of baby pics to see what he started out like.

Yes, they look very close... I can only hope mine looks as good as yours when he grows up!!! Your fish is outstanding, well done.

Thanks, he was only about 2.5" in those pictures a little smaller than yours. I wish you success with yours, he is a great looking fish with loads of potential.

Wow! very nice looking red devil :) Never seen one with color like that...

Stunning fish, and I couldn't agree more with your bump comment.

Very nice, did he come from Rapps?

No, I bought him at the Shark Aquarium in Hillside, NJ. Great store BTW, it is in the vendor forum. I was just there yesterday, there were no small RD's for sale but I saw a few nice looking large ones. Thanks.

I keep coming back to visit Psycho...even more now, that I have a competitor for size, hehe

I think Moby Dick, your great white whale got has him by a few. Physco's still a kid.

Good to see the Ole Dawg can still move around forum.
