Psyco Male Cichlid Disease.. An Epidemic??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a bad go around this Winter. Lost my Xilo, 2 x RTM, Umbee females, all in about a month. It really blows. I have to really keep an eye on my Cuban pair, cause my male goes off on her at the drop of a hat.

Right now I have a female RTM beating on the male, and my female Dovii is relentless at attacking her male. ( she is 13" though) Both of my Devil males act the same way towards their females, but my Hoga male is pretty mellow.

I think there's this large misconception in the hobby that's it's typical for these fish to pair bond at a young age and then stay together and spawn for the rest of their lives without incident.

Parachromis fry need to feed as soon as they are free swimming, algae is fine as an in between meal graze, but they are carnivores, keeping the fry alive does help the pair bond.
I use frapped pellets in tank water, and newly hatched artemia.
