JD's are nice and dont get too big...nice personality too...

Hm, i've read around and some people say jd's dont live up to their name as a boxer or something regarding its aggressiveness.

Does anyone else have anymore personal experiences with captive-bred jags, texas, or butti cichlids? How much more wilder in temperament would the wild ones be?

Jack Dempseys are more aggressive to their own kind. And they may not have reached full size. Honestly, fish have different personalities. You may get a super mean one, or get a subordinate to other fish in the tank. It's all about personality. Now, for a fish tank, I'd advise getting a few Crenicichla Sp. "Belly Crawler", Alta, or Sveni. I'd prefer the Alta and Sveni and they are really nice looking. Get a pair if you get a tank larger than 75 gallons. If not, go for just one. You could add some tinfoil barbs or silver dollars as dithers.

I have a JD.... I hate him! He is so shy and he is a pussy. I wouldn't reccomend a JD if you want to SEE your fish.

Not all JD are pussies, I have a 3" male JD as of now and it wants to fight any fish that is of equal size or even an inch bigger. I tried putting this JD where a 3.25" male jaguar resides and the JD started fighting the jaguar right away.

For a tank that is 75gallon to 100gallon go for a male jaguar.:headbang2

in a 100 gallon tank you can try one fish for example male midas ,flower horn ,trimac or texas, there are much possibilities
