Pterophyllum Scalare Red Back

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah been keeping up on this thread. But, I'm just wondering what is a reasonable price a piece? Because somebody I know was selling a bunch (don't know if was f0 or f1) but I think they were asking around $60 or so ea. btw thanks for the info!

$60 seems high unless they're larger fish. Even wild altums can be had for $15 - 20 each as small fish, so $60 for a small Manacapuru red is high. I guess they're worth whatever you're willing to pay for them, though.

Also keep in mind that there are a lot of "Manacapuru" angels, but not all develop the red back. There are still non-red angels from the Manacapuru region. A lot of people paid big money for some wild Manacapurus a few years ago to find that they ended up being regular silver angels as adults. They're beautiful and have all the classic scalare traits which make them great for crosses, but no red coloration.

You can get nice adult wild scalare for $35-$40 w/o much of a problem. However, red back scalare of the quality of the OPs I've rarely seen in the US and I would personally pay $50-$60 each for adult fish of this same quality.

@ Ryan. The info I got on that issue with the wild Manacapurus was that angels from the Manacapuru region come from both rivers & lakes. Its either the riverine or lake collection point the red backs come from - I can't remember which. The other fish will just resemble wild silvers. Not sure if that info is 100% accurate though.
