Ptychochromis insolitus, can it be?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Agreed, a very sad reflection on what has taken place in Madagascar, and is still taking place there and in many other remote parts of the world. Between deforestation and pollution, many species of insects, fish, etc are becoming extinct before they have even been discovered by western civilization.

Thanks for the info Jim. Wish I could have seen your presentation. Yes, the link provided more info I've seen as well. Heartbreaking pictures, deplorable conditions for all living creatures, including people. Let's hope this find will help increase conservation efforts.

Just received a Facebook email with a press release from the Toronto Zoo, which includes a photo of a juvenile Insolitus.

When I started preparing my presentation, I decided to focus not just on the fish but on the country itself ... the good, and then the bad and the ugly. It was very depressing to see what is happening to the countries flora and fauna because of human activity. Deforestation, siltation, exotic species introduction, depletion of water resources for agriculture ... the list goes on. Check out this video. It's sickening.

Just awful. And yes, sickening. My almost five year old asked why the river was full of chocolate milk. It was an unexpected opportunity to help her learn more about the importance of conservation. A valuable lesson we can all learn.
