Public aquarium touch tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok. thanks.

is there a permanent surgery or something? From what I know about the barbs on rays, that probably wouldn't be out of the question...

The tail would need to be removed from above the barb to stop it regenerating. PLEASE nobody consider this!

Anyone reading this thread should read all of it as the original poster was not suggesting that anyone removes, trims or does anything with the barb.

Agreed. Thank you for pointing that out.
I wish to know purely for the purpose of education, not so I can go try it.

Are you sure cauterization of the tissue that generates the barb wouldn't suffice?

Now, you are way above my understanding of the conversation (I understand what you say but do not know the answer) In simplistic terms I was trying to point out a brutal event.

I suspect you are right but think the moral issue is wrong and the motivation for doing it is based on a lower understanding than mine. i.e. People think they want to "pet" the rays but are scared of being stung, if they understood the Rays they would realise that petting is unnecessary as is the removal.

If you want to "pet" a pet then buy something like a dog that wants this contact.

I had an Iguana for 15 years, he was tame but preferred just to be left alone. I could hold and stroke him but he would rather just feed and be left alone.

Agreed, I find that very annoying.

I think its funny people find this annoying, but to each their own.

Sometimes you just can't be obvious about certain things for various reasons. Plus, does it really matter?

The mystic aquarium in Connecticut has a touch pool and i forget the name of it but the newer aquarium in Philadelphia has 1 to

I know adventure aquarium in Camden (right across the river from Philly) has a touch pool with a ray and a shark, but I forget the breeds as it's been too long.

It mattered in this thread as people wanted to know where the aquarium was - if the location said Canada then us people in the UK would have known that we cannot pop along for a visit (I know it was not in Cananda)

ALSO sometime people ask a question on something like a disease - If I need to give an answer then I may talk about UK products which is of no use, if we know where we are replying to then we can give better info.

ALSO - If someone says I am thinking of selling XYZ we know if we can buy in UK

ETC.....

If you cannot say for legal reasons then just country would help.

Ha, that makes sense. I like my yellow submarine one though.

...we all live in a yellow submarine...makes total sense.
