Sadly the DEC issued an evidence tag for Rocky, I got to see it the other day. If they come and Rocky isn't there Chris can get fined again and spend some time actually IN jail.

Gee, making him out to be a serial killer really helped in that article :screwy:

I have to agree, they could have went into more detail about Rocky NOT being dangerous to local waterways. That article breaks my heart because now I'm worried people are doing to be scared that Rocky is some super dangerous super killer fish... he's OLD, even Chris knows he's old. He isn't going anywhere fast. They're getting a very angry letter from me.

By the way... I had to search pretty hard to find the e-mail for Letters to the Editor. I ask that if you do choose to write to them that you be as POLITE in your statements as possible and also, be sure to check spelling and punctuation. We don't want them thinking Rocky supporters are dumb hicks from the suburbs...

I second that!

I ALMOST FORGOT!

"Please include your full name, address and phone number. (This information will be used for verification purposes only). The Daily News reserves the right to edit letters."

also here is my letter:

In regards to the article about Chris Deverso and his pet snakehead Rocky (article: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2009/03/17/2009-03-17_suburban_syracuse_family_begs_gov_paters.html)

Referring to Rocky as a "razor-toothed terror" in the very beginning of the article sets such a negative tone. I feel that more research could have gone into this piece. For starters, Yancey Roy and the whole DEC should really do more research into the different subspecies of snakehead fish. Of the Twenty-Eight there are only two varieties of snakehead that could survive the fridgid winters of Central New York and Rocky is not one of them. How does he pose a threat? When asked the DEC replied that they can not differenciate between the subspecies! There is only one variety of Snakehead that could survive here, the Northern Snakehead. Northern Snakeheads are tan and brown. Rocky is black and silvery/white, the coloring of the Giant Snakehead which is a tropical to sub-tropical variety and as I said before could not survive here.

My follow-up e-mail reads as follows:

I sent my previous e-mail before properly editing. According to my research, there is only one variety of snakehead fish that can survive in Central New York, not two as I forgot to edit out of my e-mail. I would also like to point out that if Maryland can do their research (which is where my typo came from, they banned only two varieties of snakehead) then why can't New York? Rocky's variety the Giant Snakehead isn't on the list of banned snakeheads in Maryland because they couldn't survive in the waters of Maryland!
