I was at walmart and sure enough they have what they call Green Spotted puffers and they tell you that they only get to be 2-3" and they can be in a community tank  I have 2 puffers that only get to be 3" maybe 4" and they are way way aggressive

has anybody ever purchased one of these from them? oh yay and they are freshwater for life???

and will thrive if moved to marine when adults

the walmart thing has been pounded into the ground, and everyone will agree that they shouldnt be allowed to sell fish or any other living creature

this isnt a walmart shouldnt be selling fish thread so lets not turn it in to (another) one. lol

they can live for a few months in freshwater but if purchased you should slowly convert to proper brackish salinity and as adults they really do need marine conditions. those puffers are tough and they can withstand freshwater for a little while but it sucks the life right out of them. i had a friend that just wouldnt listen. his died in 3 months. just kinda shriveled up. i had fun bringing over snails to let him munch on.

Most WM puffers have a death sentence. Best to buy from a reputable LFS who takes good care of them, otherwise expect to put a lot of time, $$$ & heartache into a sick fish.

walmart gsps have a very low survival rate..to much stress, starvation etc.

I use to try and save them. Sometimes I would get them for free..sometimes I would talk a clerk into selling them for 30 cents or so sometimes less (the cost of feeders). I refused to pay full price for fish that I knew where probably going to die.

I tried my best and I am not an expert, but I did for the most part know what I was doing thanks to the TPF..

I would put thier mortality rate at somewhere around %75- %80 within 2 weeks. %50 IF you get them right after the distributor drops them off (within a day or so)

evil idea .. www.gsp.com (or something similar) re-sale of walmart stock.

"excuse me Mr Walmart clerk... I'll take all those doomed fish for 80% off. Aww you know they are dead anyway .. 75% off?? Sorry, your mortality rate is 80% if that, and you are lucky I'll take them at that."

Drive home .. large QT tank, divide and sell :D

Still makes them look like good sellers though, so they'll stock more of them.

Thankfully mine stopped selling all fish. The livestock they had was so poorly cared for it was insane.

I got lucky buy going in really late at night, being a b$%^# or buy being REALLY nice...

You know what walmarts are starting to sell now? Midas Cichlids! For the life of me I will never understand why a store that sells tanks no larger than 20 gallons, insists on selling fish that require much larger..

Nearly all of the fish they sell get huge, except for various tetras and such
