Has any one ever kept freshwater puffers. I know they need salt. My fiance wants to get a 30g to keep them in. I would be the one to end up taking care of them. I don't know anything about them really. I know they should only be kept with puffers and need a lot of salt. Are they hard to care.for?

You could get a pea puffer

By freshwater, I'm assuming you're reffering to one of the brackish water species, like figure-eight or ceylon puffer? If you want to do a full freshwater puffer species, you can do a group of Pea Puffers as moodig said, or even a small group of amazon puffers; one of my personal favourites! :)

You could try dwarf puffer's there pretty easy to care for, and they are fresh water puffer's. They can be kept in a brackish tank but it will reduce there life span. They allso eat snail's so you won't have to buy as much food for them.

\/This site has alot of info about them

No Ellie doesnt want dwarf puffers. She likes figure eight puffers. I just want to know how hard it is to mix the salt and take care of them. I have only done fresh water so dont know alot about it. Also is there any other things I would need to know about them?

Very easy. Just get a hydrometer and remember to premix salt. Don't just directly dump in into the tank, mix it then put that salt water into the tank. Also raise the salinity slowly

I would want to raise the salinity before I put the fish in right? I have heard with some puffers that they live in fresh water when they are young and then move to brackish water. Is this true. If so would I need to start the water out as fresh water?

Why would a FW fish need salt?
