Hello,
I've been toying with the idea of a 20 gallon long with a single puffer of some sort... I was thinking possibly a Palembang or arrowhead puffer? I would do what I could to give it places to explore and be active but I don't mind a lurker.

Would either species work? Can you recommend any more?

Ya, I really don't want any dwarfs.
I want to experiment with their intelligence and see if I can find some ways to interest them, get them more active, and maybe start drawing more attention to lurkers as I think they're really underrated.

^ Don't bother with Palembangs or T.Suvati...

Instead, if you want a lurker thats interesting get a Congo Puffer if you don't want one of the smaller active ones...

We just got a Banded Amazon Puffer only gets 3 inches

Ours is about 1 inch, very active and personable and eats anything from brine, flakes and little chunks of krill!

They actually do best in groups of 3 or more and will most likely require semi regular teeth trimming :)

They seem I interesting... But what do you have against palembangs and suvattis?

I've kept palembangs in the past really really inactive species of puffer...

At least my old congo, along with my friends one all were quite active for lurkers..

You might like a turgidus puffer (brown puffer). They are lurkers, but to me they have more personality than the other lurkers, except for maybe the congo.
You might also like an abei if you can find one.

Look into figure 8 puffers. They are very active and personable. The fact that they are low brackish may add a fufilling unique touch to your home without the complexity of full marine and the extra equipment . A singleton would love that 20g long
