OH
Hello guys!
I have been greatly enjoying my new puffer Edward. He seems to have adjusted well to his new home. I have a question though. He seems to have problems catching ghost shrimp.:( He is pretty young I think, as he is only 3in. long. Is this normal? Will he get better at it? Thanks in advance for the help.

Oh one other question, any advice on where the best place is to get live food (crayfish or snails) for him.

what kind of puffer do you have?? I noticed with my old fahaka that it just takes some practice at catching things. I think it will just take some time before hes a skilled hunter. just leave the shrimp in and he'll take them out sooner or later. Plus the shrimp will clean your tank up too. I usually bought crayfish at the LFS and snails are sometimes give aways or you can buy them at lfs too.

He is a Fahaka. I was hoping it would just take practice. In the mean time it is fun to watch him stalk them and try to sneak up on them.

This will sound dumb, but what is LFS?

LFS = Local Fish Store

prescription contacts could do the trick, he might even have astigmatism.. try acuvue advance for astigmatism

OR you could just try to feed him dead food, such as krill, until he matures. 3 inches gives PLENTY of room to grow for that little guy.

Thanks for the help again. Right now I feed him frozen bloodworms (thawed in vitamin water), the ghost shrimp ( who are also fed bloodworms), and I am getting crayfish this weekend. I will try the snails too. What are the best kind snails for him?

Crayfish will be a riot. First time mine had one it got pinched. The cray took a ride from one side of the tank to the other and back.....hanging on to the Fahaka's tail.

Needless to say it was a learning experience. By the third one the puffer actually realized the cray must be disarmed (literally..LMAO) before it could eat.

Definetly not a stupid fish......thier begging for food is priceless.

haveing trouble catching them or eating them ? i'd check its teeth and see if there over grown but its un likely with a puffer that small but i would try to feed it prepared foods like market shrimp, krill , mussles and other hard foods also a little fish meat doesn't hurt
